| Izatys Lodge is named after the historic Sioux
Indian village on Mille Lacs Lake which was discovered by Duluth on July 2, 1679, and
visited by Father Hennepin in 1680. About 1745, the Chippewa, moving westward from Lake
Superior, captured the village during a battle that drove the Sioux permanently into
Southern Minnesota. The area around Mille Lacs has been the home of the Chippewa ever
since.
Izatys was founded on the present site in 1922. From 1922 until 1988, Izatys was
operated primarily as a family resort. In 1988, the resort was transformed to Izatys Golf
& Yacht Club with the addition of an 18 hole Dye Designs championship golf course and
a 120 slip inland marina.
Mille Lacs Lake is the second largest lake within the state of Minnesota. Our lake is
20 miles by 14 miles and has earned the nickname "Walleye Factory". Mille Lacs
is the home of approximately 1,100,000 fish.
The Stone Lodge is the only remaining
building from the original Izatys Lodge. The Stone Lodge was built in 1926 by bored
teenagers and was registered as an historic landmark in the mid 1980s.
Izatys is located 90 miles north of the Twin Cities on the south shore of Mille
Lacs Lake, an ideal location for spectacular sunsets. Today, Izatys
is the home for 114 shoreline townhomes, complete golf & practice
facilities, a Clubhouse, 28 unit hotel complex and activities for all! |
